Everyone warned me about it, but it’s true - I’m already missing college. Yes, even the grueling Biomechanics Lab days where our professor would set up 40 stations where we’d have 30 seconds a piece to give the correct muscle, muscle attachment, or bony landmark on the body…
Anyway, my buddy Mike over at AskTheTrainer.com is creating a database of Kinesiology and Exercise Science degree reviews from trainers across the country.
I recently did my college degree review of the Georgia Southern University Exercise Science program.
You can find it by clicking the link above. You can probably sense my own bias in the review, but can you blame me? I happen to like my school. Lots of good memories there. Read the rest of My Georgia Southern College Degree Review on AskTheTrainer!

Hey! Sit tight, I have some more content and answers to some questions on the way.
In the mean time, would you take a quick 30 second survey for me? In exchange for taking my survey, using the honor system, I’ll give you some personal coaching on your current program, or whatever you’d like. Just send me an e-mail with your question to:
dg (at) douggroce (dot) com and put “survey” in the subject line.
I’m thinking something like 3-5 e-mail exchanges to get you started on your program.. Maybe more if that’s what it takes..
Thanks a ton - You can go take the quick survey here.

Remember the good old days as a kid–running around on the playground, playing tag, pickup basketball, kickball, stickball, or just a made up game. .?
If you’re in to video games or fitness at all, you’ll probably find this video funny-I did.
Check it out here.

I try not to write too much about myself on this blog. But, I’d thought I’d share my workout today at the playground. (yes, you heard that right).
The local gym where I regularly lift has been shut down for maintenance for the ENTIRE WEEK. I was so worried about how my clients were going to stay on track this week, I almost forgot about myself!
So here is my Saturday playground routine. The volume was pretty low, but I think the heat came into play, which didn’t help.
Warmup
-High Knees
-Butt Kickers
-A Skips
-B Skips
-Right and left side shuffles
-Backward running
-Single leg hops
-45 Degree walking lunges
-Side to side toe touches
-60 Yard Accelerations to a full sprint
The Workout
1A- Pullups (neutral grip on monkey bars)–> 12, 7
1B- Pushups–> 25, 20
1C-set 1, Stepups–> 15 each leg ; set 2, Split Jumps, 20 (10 each leg)
That’s it, short and sweet. I didn’t exactly have my A game today, but I was breathing hard the whole time and hopefully Monday I’ll be ready to pick up where I left off last week in the weight room.
Stay tuned, as I’m working on a post about general program design for the intermediate weight lifter.

Here’s a recent quote from a client in response to me adding an extra 2 1/2 lb plate on the first set of chest supported rows:
“Does the weight keep going up and up and up forever for the rest of my life?”
And I don’t know if it was what this person said or the way this person said it, but I thought it was the funniest thing a client has ever said to me during a training session.
My smartass answer: “Yes.”
Actually, weight won’t always go up necessarily, but when training with me, you will always be progressing in what you do!!!

If you have an excuse that holds you back, perhaps you need a verbal kick in the ass.
Check out this rant by Leigh Peele. It may be just what you need.

Welcome! Hopefully this is the first of many posts here on this blog.
Truthfully—I am new to having my own website and it’s going to be a learning process. But it’s something I’ve wanted to do for about 6 months now, so I finally decided to take Nike’s advice and just do it.
I want this site to not only be a place where clients can find me on the web, but an additional resource where we can continue our conversations about health and fitness and applications to training. As fun as it is to “talk fitness” in person (and I’d probably talk your ear off if you let me), this blog can hopefully serve as a way for us to continue our conversation.
And from the comfort of your own desk—or lap.
While I’m still new to writing online, and I can’t tell you exactly what I’ll be writing about—I do know that the content will focus on you—about your questions, your concerns, and areas of health and fitness where you would benefit from knowing more.
And that it will be based on science and by what actually works.
Please take the time to add this site to your reader and check back frequently, as I plan to update with fresh content a few times a week.
Just think: you could be just one new idea or technique away from completely transforming your body.
With better understanding and application of principles come better results in the gym–and of course a healthier, stronger, leaner body that you can be proud of.
Isn’t that what it’s all about?
